History of Hounslow
Hounslow did not have any official existence before the creation of the Parish of Holy Trinity in 1856. The forested areas of this town makes it unlikely that there were any prehistoric settlers here, but the road going from London to Silchester built by the Romans goes through the town, though no evidence of Roman occupation has been discovered. The name is a combination of hound and hill and the Friars, who built a chapel and a hospital, founded it. The town had many inns for travellers the coach services used to stop here as the last stop before London. However, the development of the railways during the 1800s resulted in a depression, as it was very dependent on the coach traffic. Yet the suburban line increased residential development in the southern part of Hounslow. Most of the time, the town was divided between the Isleworth and Heston parishes. During the 19th century, some philanthropists joined together to construct a new chapel, a school and the town hall. After 1875, the town area was developed by the Urban District Council and is now the London Borough of Hounslow.
